Dinosaur Tracks

Just off Highway 160 near Tuba City, Arizona, a stretch of open red rock preserves the footprints of dinosaurs that walked here in the Early Jurassic, some 200 million years ago. The three-toed theropod tracks are associated with Dilophosaurus, an early meat-eating dinosaur whose fossils have been found on Navajo land.

Visiting the Tracks

A homemade-style sign directs visitors to the site, which sits directly north off Highway 160. There is no parking fee, no tour-guide fee, and no requirement to hire a guide, though local Navajo community members are often on hand to point out tracks and share their knowledge. A row of vendor stands offers handmade jewelry from Navajo and Pueblo silversmiths.

Plan Your Visit

Please respect the land, the local customs, and the community while you explore. Bring water and sun protection, as there is little shade at the site. In an emergency, contact the Tuba City Police Department at 928-283-3111.
